@zerooskul:
Thanks. Been having some trouble with my RF cables lately. I just ordered a new one that claims to be great, we'll see. I gave up with RF cable and got an RGB Intellivision Nice score, Which level did you get to? Yes from me on all.
@Bamse:
Yeah I saw you had an RGB mod. Yesterday I ordered a new RF cable that's supposedly "triple shielded". We'lll see how that goes. I got to level 3-3 on this game.
@doguhnew:
My pleasure. Glad to see that someone is making new games for the Intellivision. I buy quite a large number of homebrew / after-market releases, and deal with the following sources for such games: Atari Age releases new games for the 2600, 5200, 7800, Atari 8-bit Computers, Lynx, Jaguar/Jaguar CD, and the ColecoVision. Packrat Video Games releases new games for the 2600, the Odyssey 2 / Videopac, and the Vectrex. RetroUSB is a good souce for NES homebrews. Sega Power is a great source for Master System homebrews (Game Gear and SG-1000 too). Most of the games there are available for download. Super Fighter Team provides after-market releases for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, SNES / Super Famicom, and the Lynx (plus games for DOS/Windows, Android, etc.). Red Spot Games is a good source for after-market releases for the Dreamcast. They are based in Germany and have produced some excellent Dreamcast games. [Anyone else here who has read all this and knows of another source for after-market / homebrew / hacks, etc. then please let me know].
@Bamse:
Have you discovered the double jump yet? Jumping while in the air.
@Mark:
Wow! That's impressive. I had no idea all those homebrews existed, so good to see. These days all my energy (and money) is focused on building my Intellivision collection, so much so that I was unaware of all this. Thanks!
@doguhnew:
No problem, although I left one out. Purely an oversight, as I've ordered from them as well: Songbird Productions sells homebrew / after-market games for the Atari Jaguar/Jaguar CD, and the Lynx. In fact they currently have a limited number of copies of the Lynx after-market release Zaku ($70 dollars though). It was originally available from Super Fighter Team (for less, which is where I bought my copy), but has since been discontinued.
Weird. I just got to level 3-3 and only had 50k. I wonder what I'm doing wrong?
Ignore me, it must have been 2-3 I got to.
Man you are good at this game :)
@Bamse:
Hey Bamse. I just beat the fhird, and final ghost (for some reason I thought there were four). At this point, the game enters a "round 2" phase where your soul is drained quicker. I made it to 3-1 the second time around, finishing with a score 157,800. I love this game.
@Bamse:
You mean the one when you asked if they shot fire? They don't in my game, would be cool if they did though.
@doguhnew: Here is the other message.
Oh, I see. They are all meant to shoot fire from their mouths. It's been identified as a fault with the first run of Carts. If you contact the supplier they will no doubt sort it for you.
I will never beat you when the ghosts are so easy to defeat laugh
@Bamse:
Man, I feel kinda cheated. I thought the ghosts were too easily defeated. I guess this means I've a collector's copy now lol.
@doguhnew:
Lol, as I understand it, there was a glitch in the coding of the rom that meant that some copies are fine, but others have ghosts that don't shoot fire. Mine is fine but unfortunately yours is not. Below is an exert from the manual. You can see at the end it says you need to avoid Final Bosses (Ghosts) Flames. They are actually quite hard to beat as Final Bosses should be
GAME START Insert the game cartridge. You may bypass the Elektronite and Kai Magazine splash screens by tapping the disc on either controller. To start the game at the title screen, press any side button. PAUSING THE GAME During the game, you can pause and un-pause by pressing keypad 1. OBJECT OF THE GAME Get to the end of each sub-level before your soul gets drained! Defeat the ghosts and save the village! PLAYING THE GAME Move the ninja from the left screen to the right, avoiding dangers by jumping and shooting at enemies. Keep a careful watch on your 'life bar' during your odyssey! You will encounter various items that you can pick up. You will also encounter a variety of enemies and threats during Kasuhiro's odyssey! PICK UP OBJECTS -Red Ninja Star: The red shuriken bounces on floors or walls. -Yellow Ninja Star: The yellow shuriken is faster and has a longer reach. -Grey Ninja Star: Default weapon, there are no advantages. -Red Suit: Allows Kasuhiro Kun to double jump in mid-air (the ability to jump a second time in mid-air) If Kasuhiro Kun gets hit by a non-lethal enemy (ground spikes, flying black stars) he will lose the red suit! -1UP: The 1up item grants the player with an extra life. ENEMIES/THREATS: -Snakes: jump over them or kill them. If you come in contact with them you will instantly die! -Fires: Jump over them with enough speed. If you come in contact with them you will instantly die! -Black Wolf: Jump over them or kill them. If you come in contact with them you will instantly die! They only appear when you approach a small wolverine in order to defend it's kin. -Frogs: Run below them if you have enough speed, or jump over them or kill them! If you come in contact with them you will instantly die! There are at least 3 ways to get rid of this particular threat. One of them involves killing them by doing a clever maneuver with a jump and shurikens before the frog starts jumping but it is only for "pros"! -Octopus: He will wait for you to come close before jumping at you. Jump over him or kill him! If you come in contact with him you will instantly die! -Bats: Jump over them, run below them, or kill them. If you come in contact with them you will instantly die! -Black Floating Spikes: Magical traps which usually appear in swarms. Avoid them or kill them in order to avoid damage to your soul, but use them strategically sometimes to get across dangerous cliffs or reach interesting items. -Fire Balls: Jump over them, run below them or kill them! (3 hits) If you come in contact with them, you will instantly die! -Long Ice Spikes: Jump over them or break them with shurikens. They might open access to an easier path. If -Ghosts/Final Bosses: Avoid their flame attacks and hit them many times with your shurikens! Having Double Jump and bouncing or long range shuriken will help a lot! END OF THE GAME
@Bamse:
Man, I feel cheated. Anyway, I talked with the guy from Elektronite tonight. In April I have to send him my circuit board from within the cartridge. Then they reprogram the board and send it back. Kind of ridiculous to be honest. I offered to just pay for a new board, but no, I have to send this thing and be without the game for god knows how long. Kinda crappy,
@doguhnew:
It's not ideal i'll grant you but I think that's the prcess they already have in place so they need to follow it to be fair to anyone who needs the new board. In my experience Elektronite are great .You've seen what they can do with games for the Intellivision and that is just the start, There is bigger and better on the way. Hope you get it sorted soon
@Bamse:
Well, good news, Bamse! My new RF cable is the bees knees. It works really welll, very clear picture. I'm happy with it. |
