56 lives (ships all across screen) at 2:00:32 getting no votes even with video and snaps with id it would be nice if we could see why they voted no Haters gonna hate, Nothing we can do about that. For those that don't want to watch the video. Rollovers at: 13.08 26.28 39.27 52.58 1:04.46 1:17.11 1:29.05 1:42.00 1:54.12 2:06.30 2:20.46 Final score and initials entered at 2:44.30
Nice job. Loves me some Asteroids.
@DBCooper:
wow thanks for watching, confirming stats i am so greatful someone took the time to view and comment What a great performance. You should take a crack at the much harder tournament settings of 5-men only. When growing up as a kid in the early 80's, I swear I remember watching this much older player playing the game as good as you, but I could have sworn I saw 2 rows of ships. Either they were on top of each other or the 2nd row started at the bottom of the screen. Perhaps it was a bootleg or earlier version from Atari. Any thoughts? -- Posted by TheGalagaKing on 2016-11-15 12:33:10

1 other person told me they saw a second row of ships i have never seen this my self or can confirm its possible some 35 years ago i scored 1.5 mil and just 1 row there too. maybe i just needed a few more lives to get past the first row? now i am wondering again i may retire from this game but will play asteroids deluxe. if someone beats my score i may consider 1 more time, but it would be a 3 hour plus commitment
@TheGalagaKing:
do you know what the 5 men record is? is that setting here on hs or is that a twin galaxies record?
@GTibel:
The TG High score for MAME is 3.5M and was done by me
The TG Arcade record is 41,838,740. The player used a speed up hack to increase the scoring rate so it took right around 55 hours.
@pathebert:
I've been playing Asteroids since the game came out and I've never seen nor ever heard of a game that has a second row of ships. Because the game continues to draw the ships in memory, even though they aren't showing they are taking up memory space. Once you get to around 150 extra ships, the game actually goes into a slowdown state because of the lack of memory. If you get to 256 ships, the game tweeks and you will only have 1 ship. This is the same type of weirdness that causes games like Donkey Kong and Pac Man to have kill screens.
@pathebert:
TG has a track for 5 ships for Arcade but no for MAME. The score I have on this site is actually a 5 ship score done on Revision 4 rom that is harder because the saucer shoots through the screen. The high score on the arcade track is 299,010.
MAME has a Single Ship track and I've requested for this site to track the same thing. The high score is 177,480. I recently managed a single ship rollover with a final score of 109k.
@pathebert:
At one point, John had both records for the arcade, until another player bumped him down to 2nd on the 5-man settings with a 299,010. This was the track I was referring too. I was totally unaware that he played on a speed-up hack to increase the scoring in his marathon game. I only caught the last part of this game in the special features section of Ecstacy of Order: The Tetris Masters. There's a special features section where they show John playing right before he takes a bathroom break. Then he comes back to finalize his score before killing off all this ships. I thought he played for like 3 days. A lot more than 55 hours. -- Posted by TheGalagaKing on 2016-11-15 22:21:42
