I got this score playing in the 2600 High Score Club recently, lots of fun!  We got to compete with the programmer & one player scored over 100k to beat him, check it out:

the HSC is great for discovering games & getting better at old favorites!  many games I wouldn't have looked twice but I've come to appreciate because of competing at them for a week.

Space Rocks was immediately a fun & impressive game but I never played it til it came up in the HSC.

I'm playing this every day, any tricks or tips you could share.. How does the star of other ships spawn, are there any ways to farm some points at the end of each level?

the star-ship (I think those are what is meant by "magna-mines") spawns when you get down to the last couple rocks.  I think it is 3 rocks, I forgot, maybe 2.  doesn't matter if they are small or big though, just the number.  I was pushing for points by leaving two small rocks on the screen and then killing the ufo & magna-mines as many times as possible before moving on.  I don't think it is possible to keep farming though because the ufo shoots at the rocks when they are closer than you are, and also the rocks collide with the enemies.  but that's why I leave two instead of one, I think it gives me a little more time.  this is a difference from the original Asteroids which allows a player to hunt ufo's pretty much indefinitely if skilled at it.  So this technique was not considered unfair in the HSC.

the thing that helped me improve the most was a suggestion given by SpiceWare during the HSC round:  at the main menu, press & hold both the fire buttons from both controllers. this triggers a blue easter-egg screen.  release the buttons & press both joysticks UP, the screen will turn red.  then hit select or reset to return to the menu.  now everything will be a lot harder!   so playing this way will get you better at the game.  to add to that I also put it on the hardest settings from the main menu, then played that way til I could break 10k.  doing this improved my game a lot!   to get back to normal, repeat the process except pressing both controllers down, changing the easter-egg screen back to blue.
